There was not a drop of ale left in the tent following a hugely successful Peterborough Beer Festival.

Thousands poured through the gates in search of the perfect pint and magnificent music as the annual festival took over the Embankment.

This year was the 38th festival in the city, with 450 ales on offer over the five day event, which ran from Tuesday through to Saturday.

Mike Blakesley, from the festival committee, said this years had been one of the best ever,

He said: “It was fantastic. On Saturday night we actually sold out of beer. There was not even enough for the staff to have a celebratory drink at the end of the night.

“We had 10,500 people through the gates on Friday night - we normally see about 9,000 - and we were about 2,000 people up on Saturday as well.

“We have certainly made a profit, and the future of the festival for 2016 and beyond is a bit more secure.”

Mike said there were a number of highlights during the week - from visits from dignitaries to a fly past from the Vulcan on Thursday.

He said: “This was the first year we have opened all day every day, rather than just on Thursday and Saturday, and this worked really well.

“Some of the bars were 10 deep on Friday night, and the queues were from the tent all the way down to the theatre. We had so many people come, we had to open a second pay gate.

“It is the biggest and best outdoor beer festival in the country, and we think we had about 40,000 people in over the week.

“The atmosphere was fantastic throughout, with families having picnics and enjoying themselves. There was very little trouble.

“We want to thank everyone for coming down and supporting the Peterborough Beer Festival, and also for the volunteers who worked throughout.”
