SLIDESHOW: Service to mark VJ Day 70 years on held in Stamford

A special service was held in front of the Stamford War Memorial today to mark the 70th anniversary of Victory over Japan.

The Stamford branch of The Royal British Legion organised the service of thanksgiving and peace, which started at 10.54am on Broad Street.

Canon Donald Gray led an introductory prayer followed by a two minute silence.

Mayor Susan Sandall and John Garfield of the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment laid wreaths at the memorial.
