Hundreds of people are expected to sign up for the annual Santa Fun Run in Burghley Park.

This year’s event will take place on Sunday, December 14. It is the eighth time it has been organised by the Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley. So far the Santa Fun Runs have raised more than £100,000 for charities as diverse as he Evergreen Care Trust, Mind, Three Counties Dog Rescue and the Rutland Morris Men.

Rotarian Jon Whowell said he hoped to see more than 1,000 Santas on the run. He said: “ Last year we had over 800 Santas of all ages, abilities and shapes and sizes run, jog or just walked and talked around the course.

“This year we hope to have some cyclists with us to add to the spectacle. It’s a fun run so there are no winners but our Santas enjoy the event and they know they are doing a great job for the community.”

The race costs £12 for adults and £6 for under-15s, which includes the Santa suit to keep. People can sign up at www.stamforssantafunrun.com.

This year’s event will start with a warm up lead by students from Wildcats Theatre School at 10.30am. Mayor of Stamford Clem Walden will then send the Santas off into Burghley Park at 11am.
