The team at Norwich and Peterborough in Bourne had a pleasant surprise on Wednesday, when they were presented with The Local Rose Award.

One of their regular customers, Karen Muir, from Bourne had nominated the team for the award, after they went the extra mile to make her smile during a difficult time in her life.

“I’ve not been very well this past year and the staff at Norwich and Peterborough have been aware of this,” said Karen.

“The other day when I went in to see them, they very kindly presented me with a beautiful orchid plant to help cheer me up. I was so surprised and even began to
cry.”

Karen, who suffers from a long term chronic illness, was over-the-moon to receive such a lovely gift and got on the phone to the bank’s head office straight away to tell them of the team’s
kindness.

“They went above and beyond and I wanted to make sure they were recognised,” said Karen.

“They are such a friendly bunch of people and it’s lovely that they take such an interest in their customers.”

For the past year, Karen has spent most of her time at home, after having to give up work due to her illness. Karen was previously a teaching assistant at The Deepings School and had been working there for more than 18
years.

“I cannot tell you the difference it made to just know that someone was thinking of me,” said Karen.

“When you suffer from a chronic illness you can feel invisible at times, so this meant a
lot.”

General manager at the Bourne branch of Norwich and Peterborough, Bev Wood said: “It’s really nice to get that recognition and to know that someone appreciates the work that we do.

“We like to have a good relationship with our customers and regularly people will come in just for a chat.

“We will put our Rose Award pride of place on the counter where everyone can see it.”
