People stopped what they were doing and were silent for two minutes as they paid their respects to the fallen on Armistice Day.

Canons were fired in towns across the area to mark the start of the silence at 11am earlier today (Wednesday, November 11).

In Stamford, plenty of people paid their respects at the war memorial in Broad Street. Photogrpaher Lee Hellwing sent us some moving pictures that can be seen in the gallery above.

Members of Wildcats Post 16 Academy, based in Broad Street and St Peters Hill, took part in the memorial service. Students worked on the theme of remembrance during tutorial over the past weeks, producing dance and theatre pieces based around the poem In Flanders Fields. They also learnt the hymn O’God, Our Help In Ages Past, which was then performed as part of the service in Stamford.

Wildcats founder Caz Dolby said: “We always like to take part in local events and this is no exception. It’s important our students understand the importance of these event locally and nationally and they have been really keen to get involved and show their understanding of the theme.

“We take part in this event every year and are grateful to the Stamford Royal British Legion for allowing us to take part.”

If you took pictures where you were, e-mail them to the newsdesk.
