Another nail into the coffin for our local shopkeepers

I WAS surprised to learn recently that there had been some support from local councillors regarding the extended opening hours applications and extended delivery hours applications by Sainsbury's.

While we all value the variety and quality of merchandise and groceries offered for sale by Sainsbury's it is another nail in the coffin for our local small shops.

Who can compete with a successful chain like Sainsbury's?

We have already seen the demise of Woolworth and Budgens.

Which business will be the next to go in this small market town?

The Burghley Centre and the Crown Walk arcade will soon be the next to suffer.

Why bother revamping the town when all we will need is an extended car park around Sainsbury's and an A road so that the lorries can trundle by unheeded.

Make sure there are some traffic lights opposite the shop so that the children can cross safely and plenty of waste bins.
