Ron and his family moved to Rutland in 1962 when he and his wife Hazel took over Morcott Hall School. They retired to Norfolk, Sheringham, in 1985 but returned to Rutland in 2009.

Born in London, Ron joined the RAF during the Second World War and met his future wife, Hazel, when they were both stationed at Biggin Hill in Kent.

He trained to be a teacher at Westminster College, London.

Ron enjoyed playing golf and latterly bowls at Suffield Park near Sheringham where he was secretary and president.

He loved his garden and had a passion for growing orchids which he did with some success winning prizes at amateur shows in London.

A comment made by a former Morcott Hall pupil at the funeral was: “He taught me the beauty of snowdrops when I was nine-years-old and they have been my favourite flower ever since.”

A genuinely gentle man Ron will be missed by all his family and friends.

His family would like to thank the staff at the Rutland Care Village and the Rutland Reach Team, who cared for Ron during his short illness, and Oakham paramedic team for their professionalism and calmness.
