A dog exhibitor from Market Deeping will be making his second appearance on the popular BBC quiz show Mastermind this year.
Dr Nigel Tomlinson, aged 63, from Petworth Close in Market Deeping, is through to the semi-final of Mastermind after winning the heats.
Nigel, who has a PhD on the pathology of parasites in fish, scored a winning 11 points on his specialist subject, the American Civil War’s Battle of Gettysburg.
He also scored 11 points in the general knowledge round.
The filming for the heats took place during the summer at MediaCity UK in Salford Quays, Manchester and was recently broadcasted on television in September.
Nigel said: “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but I’ve never had the time and thought I wasn’t good enough.”
After Nigel applied last year he had to go through both a vigorous phone interview and panel interview.
He said: “The questions were incredibly difficult, I didn’t expect them to get back to me.”
Shortly after, Nigel found out he had been chosen for the show, he said: “I was so taken aback, you could of knocked me over with a feather!”
Nigel was up against four other contestants in the heats and faced both questions on his specialist subject and general knowledge, which he scored the highest in both.
Nigel said: “It was absolutely amazing, the look of surprise and relief on my face when I watched it back was great.
“It was one of the most satisfying experiences ever.
“I can’t really explain to people what it is like to be sat in that chair, under the spotlight - there is so much pressure, but the pressure is what you get a real buzz from.
“I’m so pleased I got two appearances on the show, I was amazed just to get through the auditions, let alone through to the semi-finals.”
The semi-finals have already been filmed back in November and will be broadcast this year.
