A couple who celebrated 60 loving years together have said that the secret to a long and happy marriage is having a laugh with one another.

Bernard and Betty Windsor celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on Thursday last week, together with their two sons Andrew and Terry.

The pair, who met as young children whilst growing up in the same village in Little Bytham, got married in 1955, when Betty was aged 18 and Bernard was 21. Betty recalled that their church wedding in Little Bytham “really was a white wedding” as it was snowing.

The couple, who now live in Market Deeping after moving there 50 years ago, still enjoy each others company and said a relationship is all about ‘give and take’.

Bernard said: “When I met Betty I knew she was the one for me, she’s always been there and any problems we have we share.”

Betty added: “When you first get married you don’t ever think about the next 60 years - it just happens. It’s been lovely but it makes you wonder where all those years have gone.”

Keen bowlers, Bernard and Betty enjoy competing against each other at bowls at the club in Deeping St James, where Betty is club president.

Along with having a celebratory dinner at The Stage in Market Deeping on Thursday, they were also invited to a surprise party at their granddaughters house in Spalding during the week. All their family were there including their three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
