Villager blasts 'poor' Royal Mail delivery

A VILLAGER who claims not to have received post on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the last month has hit out at Royal Mail.

Peter Morris was inspired to keep a postal diary after noticing that Aslackby had begun to receive an erratic postal service and is calling on Royal Mail to sort the problems out.

Mr Morris, who lives in Kirkby Underwood Road, is not the only person to have noticed the erratic service as another villager, Chris Ayres, has also complained.

Aslackby is served by the Sleaford sorting office, which came under fire last year from Sleaford residents over a sporadic service caused by postal staff shortages due to illness, relief staff with no local knowledge and delivery rounds being cut short due to lack of pay for overtime.

Royal Mail says it implented a new system in December to resolve problems but has apologised for inconveniece.

Mr Morris became concerned after noticing there were days where he would receive no mail but then a pile of letters would arrive on other days. He said: "I have been aware for sometime we do get a lot of post on one day and then absolutely nothing the next.

"I am talking about half-a-dozen letters and then absolutely nothing. Royal Mail has an obligation to deliver at least once a day to all properties, Monday to Friday, in the UK."

Mr Morris says that over the four-week period he had an average of five to six letters on a Monday, Wednesday and a Friday with nothing on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

He says he has tried to report the issue to the Sleaford sorting office – making 12 calls over the last two weeks – but got no response.

The sporadic service has also been noticed by media sales agent Mr Ayres, who works from his home in Kirkby Underwood Road. He said: "I have found the post erratic. Post I am expecting doesn't come for a day or two later."

A spokesman said: "Royal Mail met a number of Sleaford customers who made contact over an erratic delivery service towards the end of last year. Remedial action was implemented in December and they confirmed deliveries were being made as normal. We apologised for the inconvenience caused and the lack of communication at the time."
