The first swimmers of the summer season braved the wind and cold to take a leap into Bourne’s Outdoor Pool.

The pool on the Abbey Lawn in Bourne opened for its 25th season last Saturday and there was a good crowd to enjoy the warm water, despite the
rain.

Chairman of the pool’s management committee Mandy Delaine-Smith said: “The opening went very well and we were pleased to see our regular supporters come out to support us despite the weather.

“It wasn’t packed out but it could have gone a lot worse.”

But she said since the opening, the pool had been quiet as the rain continued to fall throughout the
week.

Mandy said the management committee is hoping for the sun to come out but urged people to make the most of Bourne’s ‘hidden gem’ whatever the weather.

She said: “We have had a rubbish start but we are hoping for a good summer. The water is beautifully warm no matter what the weather though!”

This year for the first time credit and debit card payments will soon be accepted, which Mandy hopes will make a big difference to customers.

Children’s tickets have remained the same but adult tickets have risen slightly to £4.50 for a day ticket and to £80 for a season ticket. The money goes towards the ongoing costs of running the pool.

The pool, which is near Olympic sized and is heated, is charity run and relies on the efforts of volunteers to continue.

Ahead of the pool’s opening, many came forward to help get it ready and Mandy said she was grateful for their support.
