School explores foundation status
Staff and governors at a Bourne school have begun exploring the possibility of gaining foundation status.
Tim Bright, headteacher at Bourne Westfield Primary School, said: "It gives the school the opportunity to be more flexible in financial terms.
"The school becomes a charity, which gives it the possibility of attracting additional funds, and it is a logical move forward.
"The children will not notice any change but foundation status does help develop a good sense of ownership of the school.
"It is a relatively straightforward process and the plan is that if stakeholders agree, the process could be completed by September."
n At Bourne Abbey Primary School governors have taken the next step towards changing the school's status to foundation with Church of England character.
Governors' chairman John Kirkman said: "The governors are very pleased that the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families has approved the consultation document.
"We have consulted widely with parents, carers and guardians of every pupil along with all stakeholders and are delighted with the level of support for the proposed change."
