Rose Awards: Barbara honoured for selfless acts of kindness
A DEVOTED daughter-in-law has been nominated for the Local Rose Award for providing continuing support to her extended family.
Barbara Lunn (51) received The Local Rose Award last week after her mother-in-law wrote to the Local describing her selfless acts of kindness.
Molly Lunn (83) described her daughter-in-law as "absolutely marvellous" and said that her compassion "totally deserves recognition".
Molly's husband, Jack, recently passed away after a long illness during which Barbara proved a tower of strength.
Molly said: "Barbara was there day and night. She did everything from our washing and cleaning to driving me to and from the hospital and even taking me out to play bingo just to take my mind off of things."
When not helping care for her mother-in-law, Barbara also looks after her own elderly mother, who is also in poor health and runs a busy home, looking after her two sons and four grandchildren, two of whom live with her.
Molly said: "Barbara has had to cope with her own family problems but she keeps smiling and carries on without complaining. I couldn't manage without her."
Barbara, of Ancaster Road, Bourne, says that she was surprised and delighted to have been nominated for the award.
She said: "I had absolutely no idea. Thank-you very much for this. Our family has had its ups and downs but I've just had to get on with it. I've recently broken my arm in an accident at home but even that won't slow me down!"
This is Molly's letter:
I would very much like to nominate my daughter-in-Law, Barbara Lunn, for the Rose Award.
Over the last year in particular Barbara has been a tower of strength and support to the whole family. We have had some very tough times lately and I am not sure that I would have come through without Barbara's dedication and patience.
I recently lost my husband after 63 years of marriage and Barbara was always there to comfort me and offer practical help.
Through all of this, she has had to cope with her own family problems, including helping to care for her own mother and her beloved grandchildren.
The most amazing thing is that she has done all of this without ever once complaining and kept smiling through it. At Christmas, she broke her arm and still unselfishly put everyone before herself.
She really is a star and deserves this award wholeheartedly.
Molly Lunn
