Ripping-Ale celebrates first decade

A VILLAGE beer festival celebrates its 10th anniversary next week.

Revellers are invited along to the annual Ripping-Ale Beer Festival which takes place on Rippingale's playing field the first weekend in September.

Villager Angela Adams, 50, of High Street, Rippingale, has organised the event with husband Nigel, 57, and the help of friends and other residents in the village. She said: "The beer festival has grown over the years from a small RAF tent to what we have today. Please come along and help us raise money for local charities.

"Hopefully the weather will be kind to us this year, but if not - we have two very large marquees to keep everyone warm and dry."

There will be a variety of bands playing over the weekend, as well as about 20 real ales, at least eight ciders and a couple of barrels of lager for festival-goers to taste. Soft drinks will be available too and there will be a barbecue and sweets to buy.

Mrs Adams is grateful to everyone who is involved in the festival, including the entertainers.

She said: "The various live bands kindly give their time in exchange for drink and food which makes us able to give more money to charity."

Funds raised from the event will be distributed to different charities in the area.

Mrs Adams will be leaving her role after this year's event.

She said: "My husband and I will be stepping down from the committee after this year, but we have some very capable people ready to take over from us.

"We will still be around to offer advice if needed but are looking forward to next year when we can be on the other side of the bar."

The festival is on Friday, September 3, from 6pm to 11.30pm, Saturday, September 4, from midday to 11.30pm, and Sunday, September 5, from midday until 3pm.
