Practice to unveil £400k expansion

A MASSIVE £400,000 expansion at a GP surgery will be unveiled at an opening ceremony next week.

The celebration will take place at Bourne Galletly Medical Practice, in North Road, Bourne, on Friday next week, in the afternoon.

Practice manager Ian Robinson is looking forward to the event. He said: "As a practice, we are all really excited and looking forward to the opening.

"It will increase the scope for us to be able to provide more treatment and improve access to the site."

The extension has provided space for four more consulting rooms, a waiting room, additional car parking space and a training suite.

It has been built onto the back of the surgery, in keeping with the existing architecture of the practice, while avoiding overlooking any nearby homes.

The expansion is a joint venture between the East Midlands Healthcare Deanery, Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust and the practice partners.

The organisations have funded the work and Mr Robinson said now Bourne Galletly is able to become a teaching practice to train qualified doctors as GPs along with improving GP and primary care services access.

"This is seen as a major development with the practice being commissioned by NHS Lincolnshire to provide primary care medical services for the growing population of Bourne and surrounding area," he added.

The expansion will allow for an additional 7,000 patients to be treated at the Galletly Practice, with the employment of more doctors, nurses and support staff, in addition to the existing 33 full and part-time staff and six GPs.

Plans for the extension were approved by South Kesteven District Council's development control committee in December last year and work started shortly afterwards.

Mr Robinson said parts of the practice have also been refurbished.
