New fund aims to help get empty homes back in use

Owners of empty houses may be eligible for funding to get it back into use.

Under South Kesteven District Council's new Empty Homes Fund, as long as a property has been unoccupied and unfurnished for at least six months and owners comply with certain conditions, they could qualify for up to 3,000 to help with the costs of materials and labour.

Council spokesman Kevin Martin said: "This is a real opportunity for anyone with an empty house to get a significant boost towards bringing it back into use.

"The Government is keen to maximise use of the country's housing stock and minimise the number of new homes that need to be built each year."

The council is holding an empty homes seminar on Monday, November 12, at 4.30pm at Grantham Guildhall.

Application forms to take advantage of the fund can be downloaded from southkesteven.gov.uk.

The closing date for applications is Monday, November 26.
