Maria to put best foot forward for care home
A COAST to coast walk will be tackled by a care home worker in the autumn.
Maria Fryer will be raising money for Digby Court residents by completing the 191-mile Wainwright's Walk in September.
Mrs Fryer, 38, of West Road, Pointon, was inspired to take on the challenge of travelling from the west coast to the east coast of England after watching Countryfile presenter Julia Bradbury complete it in a programme.
She is planning to use this walk as a warm up for the Pennine Way next year.
Mrs Fryer is the activities co-ordinator at Digby Court and will be raising as much money as possible to pay for treats for the residents at the home in Christopher's Lane, Bourne.
Mrs Fryer would also like to raise money for a new minibus.
She said: "I am really looking forward to it.
"It looks to be a varied route, you have got the stunning Lake District to start with and then you go over the dales which are rolling."
Mrs Fryer will be starting off in St Bees, in Cumbria, on Thursday, September 9, before finishing in Robin Hood Bay in Yorkshire on Sunday, September 19.
Distances on the two week trek will range from 22-miles on the longest day and 10 miles on the shortest.
Mrs Fryer, who will be stopping in bed and breakfasts along the way, is already gearing up for her long trek by regular walks around the fields and hills near her home.
She tries to complete a couple of four-mile walks during the week with a longer 10-mile one at weekends.
She is hoping that people in the area will support her.
In appealing for help Mrs Fryer said: "This is a lovely home and we have lovely people here."
To support Mrs Fyer call her on 01778 422035.
