Illegal immigrants found working in Stamford and Bourne restaurants to be deported

Six people found working in restaurants illegally during checks by the UK Border Agency could be deported.

The workers were found during inspections at The Bengal Clipper in Broad Street, Stamford and the China Palace in South Street, Bourne.

The checks at The Bengal Clipper were carried out on on December 20 last year. Two Bangladeshi men were arrested after neither was found to have the right to remain in the UK.

And at China Palace on Thursday last week Border Agency officers arrested four Chinese nationals – three men and a woman – who did not have permission to work in the UK.

The two Bangladeshi men have been released on bail and have applied for the right to stay in the UK. If they are found not to have the right to work in the UK they could be deported.

They will not be allowed to work while they are on bail.

The four Chinese nationals remain in detention while their cases are reviewed.

Both restaurants were served with potential fines of up to £10,000 per illegal worker.

The fines will have to be paid unless they can prove they took legally required steps to confirm the right to work of the foreign nationals, such as checking passports.

Paul Tranter, from the UK Border Agency in Lincolnshire, said: “Any foreign national who is in the UK illegally should be in no doubt that they will be found, arrested and removed from the country.

“Businesses that take on illegal workers face heavy
fines and possible prosecution.

“We urge members of the public to please report any suspicions about people who might be here illegally.”
