Foot fetishist caught in the act

A MAN with a foot fetish who repeatedly stared at girls' shoes at a train station was caught in the act by police, magistrates have heard.

Andrew Wright (38) of Towning Close, Deeping St James, stood with his hands in his pockets while leaning down to examine the shoes of a 16-year-old girl, the Spalding court heard last week.

Wright was accused of returning to stare the girls' feet five times and was eventually caught when the girl tipped off police about his activities, who caught him in the act.

The harrasment started on October 22 when the Leicester College student, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was waiting at Stamford Railway Station.

Wright crossed a footbridge from the other platform and walked over towards the girl, stopping to lean against a column.

She then noticed he was staring at her feet and "making strange expressions", breathing heavily with his hands in his trousers until she became scared and left.

Wright approached her while she was sat down three more times in the next few weeks, on one occasion standing licking his lips and making noises in the train waiting room before leaving.

On December 11 she pointed out Wright to her father who drove to the police station to report him. Wright was trapped by British Transport Police four days later.

Prosecutor Rebecca Ritson said Wright admitted he had "a bit of an illness" and had gone to the train station to look at shoes nine or ten times within the last six months.

Wright admitted harrassment and in mitigation Jeremy Roberts said Wright, who is married with children, has been receiving counseling from a local health team since he was charged.

Wright said there was nothing sexual about the incidents which occurred during his 25-minute lunch break.

Mr Roberts said: "He did not target this girl and never tried to frighten her, but obviously if someone goes down and looks at your shoes it's quite unnerving, and he must accept that."

Wright's hearing was ajourned until March 10 for pre-sentence reports and he was bailed with a condition not to enter Stamford Train Station.
