Council considers £25 charge to collect green bins
A CHARGE could be introduced for people who have a green bin.
South Kesteven District Council is looking at charging £25 a year to use the green bin service. The district council collects the garden waste fortnightly except between November and March when the service drops to a monthly collection.
There is already a £26 charge to buy the bin. First time bin users would pay £35 in the first year and £25 a year after.
Coun John Smith (Con), who is the portfolio holder for healthy environment, said: “It is important to remember that this is an optional service for our residents so if this goes ahead and people decide they don’t want to pay they can choose not to use the service.
“By making a small charge of just £25 a year for those who want to use the service we are hoping to be able to keep council tax at the current levels for the 2012/13 financial year.”
The district council will consider the proposal at a meeting in March.
Lincolnshire County Council is also proposing to keep its council tax at the current levels for 2012/2013.
