Clean up of water fountain in Bourne discussed by councillors

A HISTORIC water fountain memorial in Bourne was the topic of discussion for town councillors.

Members of Bourne Town Council’s amenties committee discussed cleaning the Ostler Memorial Fountain at the town hall on Tuesday evening.

Town clerk Nelly Jacobs will now check with South Kesteven District Council’s listed buildings officer what method of cleaning would be most acceptable and then will take the information back to the committee for further discussion.

The water fountain memorial was paid for by public subscription following the death of businessman John Lely Ostler in 1859. It was built in Market Place in 1860 and moved to Bourne Cemetery in South Road 100 years later. It was given Grade II listed status in 2007.
