Centre to save cash with solar panels

A community centre has taken steps to cut its annual bills by installing solar panels to provide it with energy and raise funds .
The Centre at Elsea Park is hoping to save about £500 a year in bills and should generate an income of about £1,500 by feeding power back into the national grid.
The 40 Photovoltaic panels, supplied by Market Deeping-based Eco Building Products, installed on the roof produce electricity from daylight, generating useable power even on cloudy days.
The whole scheme is predicted to generate over 8,000 kWh of electricity annually,
The centre will use around 80 per cent of the electricity generated by the installation. The community centre will benefit from the government’s Feed in Tariff which guarantees payments for the generation of energy from renewable energy technologies such as photovoltaic panels.
Ian Greenfield of Eco Building Products said: “The installation of PV panels at Elsea Park means that the community centre can generate significant savings in energy use over time, not simply in cash terms but also in terms of pressure on the environment.”
The system is set to save in the region of six tons of carbon dioxide every year.
Lark Energy oversaw the planning of the project and installation of the panels.
