Bourne Westfield Primary Academy could run town’s new Elsea Park school
Bourne Westfield Primary Academy has been recommended to run a new academy school planned for Elsea Park.
The school, which is working in partnership with the CfBT Schools Trust, has been selected as the preferred school to run the new school, which should be open by September 2014.
A panel, made up of the assistant director for children’s services at Lincolnshire County Council, a representative from the Lincolnshire Children and Young People’s Scrutiny Committee and two headteachers of Lincolnshire maintained primary schools, put forward the recommendation after considering three applications.
The panel’s preference was revealed in a report to the Lincolnshire County Council children and young people’s scrutiny committee, which will look at the recommendation at a meeting this Friday.
The executive councillor for children’s services Patricia Bradwell (Con) will then decide which application is put forward to the Secretary of State for Education to be approved.
The three applicants were asked to prepare a presentation for the panel called “If we visited the Academy in five years time please explain to us what would make the Academy special and stand out from other schools/Academies?”
The highest score was achieved by the CfBT Schools Trust in partnership with Bourne Westfield Primary Academy.
In the report, the panel members said they were satisfied that either of the two highest scoring bids would be suitable operators of the new academy but wished to nominate Bourne Westfield Primary Academy, as the preferred operator.
The report said: “This operator met all of the criteria to a good standard or better and was unanimously agreed by all panel members to be the best of three strong submissions.”
It is not known who the two other applicants to run the new school were.
The Elsea Park school will provide 210 places, 30 in each year group, which the council says will be needed in the town by 2015, based on growth projections.
The £2.5 million construction costs would be paid by the county council and Elsea Park developers Kier Homes as part of an agreement made when the 2,000-home estate was granted planning permission.
