Adventurer Jenny completes challenge

AN adventurer has returned from South America where she completed a trek to the ancient city of Machu Picchu high in the Andes mountains.

Jenny Holloway works at Bakkavor in Bourne and was backed by the firm on her expedition in October which raised almost 5,000 for the firm’s charity, Action Medical Research.

Jenny (58), who lives in Peterborough, said: “I'm back and very happy to say ‘I did it’. It was a great experience and I had no problems with the altitude or sore feet.

“The trek was challenging, but very rewarding on reaching Machu Picchu, after climbing and descending about 7,000 steps over four days and three nights’ camping.

“The Amazon Rainforest was amazing. We saw monkeys, macaws, caymen, lots of different insects including tarantulas and lots more.”

And now she has had a taste of adventure, Jenny is keen to set off again and said: “The Great Wall of China next year.”

Family, friends and colleagues sponsored Jenny, helping her to raise 4,756 for research into the care of premature babies.

She said: “All this money will go to Action Medical Research and their Touching Tiny Lives campaign to give the most vulnerable babies in this country a better start in life.”

Bakkavor, the firm which owns Bourne Salads and Bourne Stir Fry, covered Jenny’s costs, including her registration for the trip, and staff supported her fundraising efforts.

The proceeds of a compnay-wide football tournament at the Abbey Lawn and the firm’s family fun day held in the summer at The Recreation Ground were all channelled towards her appeal.
