Businesses should not bear cost
I should like to add my comments to the debate on the Cafe Noir, as I know it.
I come from Bourne to your pretty town of Stamford because it has such excellent places to eat with so much choice.
Cafe Noir breakfasts suit me, but my daughter, who lives in Stamford, insists we give support to as many establishments as possible, so we shall continue to have such choices.
Now I see all the empty businesses in the town, and would like to suggest a remedy.
Every time a business is forced to close as the result of some decision by the council, the council should make a corresponding number of its personnel redundant as those who have lost their jobs as a result of its, sometimes questionable, decisions.
Remaining businesses should not have to carry the costs of maintaining South Kesteven District Council, but the cost should be borne by Westminster. After all, it was they who imposed this extra layer of frustrating, rather than facilitating, bureaucracy, upon us. That might concentrate a few minds on where we can save money!

How can NHS cash go on wood gym?
I was astonished to hear at the recent Bourne Town Council meeting that the gymnasium equipment proposed in Bourne Woods has again received a change of heart from the council.
I have made numerous inquiries to the origin of the whole idea. It comes from abroad of course! It would appear that the NHS Primary Care Trust offered the Forestry Commission 10,000 for this equipment, supposedly for the health benefits to those who cannot afford the gym.
I had a swift vision of people furtively using it rather than let the community at large know they cannot afford anything else.
Who would maintain it? What if anyone were injured? An open season for vandals? I believe South Kesteven District Council and Bourne United Charities were not prepared to maintain the equipment.
I don't know about the insurance should anyone be injured or attacked. Presumably a police patrol would need to make frequent visits.
Personally wild horses would not tempt me into the woods alone to use this equipment and I don't know anyone else who would go either. No doubt any users would use their cars to get to the woods, rather than walk, or exercise at home or eat less to lose weight.
I was at the meeting when the subject of all this was believed to be laid to rest. However, I was at a later meeting when Coun Linda Neal said the district council was not paying for his, the NHS was, therefore she thought the matter should be looked at again.
Can somebody please tell me how the NHS can spend 10,000 on this in the light of the present dire financial situation, and when people are dying for the lack of a drug? It is certainly helpful, though, to attend council meetings, merely to know who says what, and to remember, when they need your vote.

Thanks for help
I had my purse stolen out of my handbag last Tuesday while I was in the Heron Food Store in Bourne. I would like to take this chance to say to everyone who has been so kind to offer me help, as all my pension was in my purse. To everyone who lent me money and gave me support, thank you. Special thanks to Mrs Shirley Cullen, who has been wonderful. So ladies, look after your purses. Mine was gone in a flash.

Flag day success
On Saturday we held an annual flag day in Spalding and raised the grand total of 460.08, and we would like to pass our deepest thanks to all who collected for us and for those who donated.
Every penny raised will be sent direct to our head office at Great Ormond Street and will be put to great use in finding the cures for these terrible illnesses.
