Keep donating
I would like to send my most grateful thanks to the people of Bourne and the surrounding areas for their donations of wonderful goodies to fill the boxed parcels for our brave soldiers serving in Afghanistan.
I was more than happy to take over the task of filling boxes, wrapping and taking them to the post office.
Since taking over from Shirley Cliffe in June I have sent 128 parcels.
The postage to HM Forces in Afghanistan is free and I would also say thank you to the staff in Bourne Post Office for a very professional and very friendly service, also for their own donations to fill the parcels.
Those of you who donate lovely goodies know where to take the gifts, for those who don’t know, you can take your gifts to The Local office in West Street, next to the post office or to my home at 8 Rowan Way located between Beech Avenue and Saxon Way.
I am also willing to collect. My telephone number is in the phone book. I must point out again there are three banned items that cannot be put in the parcels which will travel by Military Pressurised Aircraft.
The banned items are aerosols of any kind, anything with gel in it and nail varnish.
For any new donors the items I need are: Anything to eat, biscuits, crisps, gum, mints, all sweets, cakes with a life of at least two weeks before the eat by date. Anything for the bath/shower, mouth hygiene etc.
Please remember we have female soldiers who require wipes, tissues, mouthwash and also those very private items. Any indoor table or hand games, playing cards, quiz books, crosswords and so on. Female soldiers also need combs, hairbrushes and talc.
Thank you once again and please tell your friends and neighbours about this service which brings great comfort to our brave heroes.
