Easy way to make savings

NATURAL England is a new name for English Nature - a non-governmental organisation set up to advise the Environment Agency on matters pertaining to countryside issues.

It is not part of the civil service, although it and its staff seem to enjoy many of the same privileges, benefits and powers.

It also dishes out 1,000 to organisations that already benefit from Gift Aid, thus clobbering the simple tax payer twice, at least.

For example, the RSPB have had at least 250,000 from English Nature and the National Trust has had similar sums from English Heritage - an organisation similar in set-up to Natural England.

These non-governmental organisations parallel the charities they support - in fact there is quite an interesting cross flow of personnel between them.

The government could save a deal of money by simply giving a percentage of what it costs to keep these two organisations alive to the respective charities.

Did you know that English Nature had its head office in Peterborough?
