A team from Grantham-based sports charity Inspire+ will take on the Three Peaks challenge to raise money towards its ongoing programmes in schools and communities.

The group – made up of Chris Graves, Marc Blackman, Michael Hale and Vincent Brittain – aims to raise £1,000 in sponsorship by completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in less than 12 hours.

Inspire+ operations manager Chris Graves said: “The challenge involves getting to the top of the three highest peaks in Yorkshire; it is normally walked in the order of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, before returning to Horton in Ribblesdale.

“The total walking distance is 24.5 miles – as long as we don’t get lost! The height gained is 1,585m (5,200ft). In order to achieve the 12-hour target we need to average at least an average of 6mph; downhill easy, not so much on the uphill climbs!”

Each peak will be climbed in honour of one of the charity’s ambassadors – Paralympian Sam Ruddock, Olympian Sophie Allen and adventurer Sarah Outen MBE.

The total raised will go towards the Inspire+ Ambassador programme in schools across the district.
