Is it a real emergency?

A TOTAL of £2m a year of NHS spending could be saved in Lincolnshire if accident and emergency departments were used more appropriately, a new study suggests.

NHS Lincolnshire is telling people A and E stands for “Accident and Emergency” not “Anything and Everything”.

Dr Martin McShane, director of commissioning development for NHS Lincolnshire said: “Research shows that one in 10 people are using accident and emergency inappropriately and could have gone elsewhere for treatment. Before turning up at accident and emergency think, is it really a life threatening emergency? Could you visit a minor injuries unit or walk-in centre, call your GP or go to a pharmacy?”

There are accident and emergency departments at Grantham, Boston and Lincoln.
