Hospital staff levels ‘put patients at risk’
A hospital has taken on extra workers after health watchdog inspectors said staffing levels put patients at risk.
The details of the Care Quality Commission report were revealed by The Sunday Telegraph this week.
Inspectors visited Stamford Hospital, which serves Bourne, in August as part of a national programme. They warned hospital bosses they had failed to employ enough staff to “keep people safe and meet their health and welfare needs”.
Stamford Hospital, which is managed by the Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals Trust, was one of 17 in the country to be issued with a warning during the inspections.
Chris Wilkinson, director of care quality and chief nurse at the trust, said: the inspectors had raised “moderate concerns” that the level of staffing was not always adequate on the John Van Geest ward at Stamford Hospital.
“The trust has recruited a new ward manager and the successful candidate started in her role in November,” she said.
“We have also been successful in filling several vacant nursing posts.
“In addition, staffing rosters have been reviewed and modified to ensure adequate staffing levels at weekends and during staff meal breaks.”
