Volunteers take part in conservation day at Bourne Wood

A TEAM of volunteers took part in a conservation day at Bourne Wood.

A group of 16 people helped the Forestry Commission with the maintenance work on Thursday last week which involved making a coppice plot.

Cheryl Joyce, the recreation ranger at the Forestry Commission, said she was pleased with how much work was carried out on the day.

She said: “What our volunteers did was use a traditional woodland management technique which opens up the ground for flowers to come through.

“We are trying to encourage nightingales back, as we’ve not had any present for a few years as the habitat has not been suitable.

“We could not have done this without our volunteers.”
