SCAVENGERS collected lots of firewood during a family event on Saturday.

About 15 people attended the scavenging day at Bourne Wood, which was organised by the Friends of Bourne Wood and supported by the Forestry Commission.

It was held for those interested in collecting wood in their own wheelbarrow for their wood fire or burner.

Friends of Bourne Wood secretary Sarah Roberts said it went really well and that the weather was nice.

She said: “Several of those attending took more than one barrow-load. It is a great way to spend an hour or so, in the fresh air, getting some exercise and some wood into the bargain.”

Their next event is a scavenging day for firewood on Saturday, January 21. It costs £5.

Booking is essential by calling Mrs Roberts on 07760468052.
