On Tuesday, December 8, Bourne Westfield Year 5/6 football teams went to Spalding Gleed School to compete in the South East Lincs Primary Schools Football Tournament.
Both the A and B teams played in separate leagues against other schools from the partnership during the morning session.
The winning teams and runners up from each league qualified for the knockout rounds in the afternoon.
Westfield A comfortably won their league and went on to win their quarter-final match, racking up 23 goals for and none against in three games; Fraser Lesiw scoring 11 and Freddie Brooks 8.
The score lines in the semi-final and final were much closer but both games were dominated by a well organised Westfield side who beat Pinchbeck East A team in the final by a solitary goal, set up by captain Ellis Burgwine-Jones and confidently dispatched from close range by Ryan Cirino.
The Westfield B team also won their league by virtue of goal difference but lost a closely contested quarter final match on sudden death penalties to Moulton John Harrox School from Spalding, who went on to lose to Westfield A in the semi-final.
Throughout the tournament both the Westfield teams played some super football.
Their winning team will now go on to represent South East Lincs in the County Finals in January next year.
PE co-ordinator Richard Scott commented, “The boys played exceptionally well with great team spirit and were deserved winners of the tournament.”
