Councillors have approved the first step in a review of part of a free school transport policy.
A proposal to review the grammar school section of Lincolnshire County Council’s policy came before the authority’s children and young people’s scrutiny committee yesterday (Friday).
Campaigners from the Castle Bytham and Claypole areas have been fighting to change the policy.
After the meeting executive councillor for children’s services Patricia Bradwell (Con) said: “The children and young people scrutiny committee today agreed the proposal for a scrutiny review of the council’s home to school transport policy in relation to discretionary grammar school transport.
“This will now go to the overview and scrutiny management committee on June 18 for approval before a task and finish review team is put together – anything from five to nine councillors. In the following months this group will set out exactly what they will be reviewing and the work should start in September, with a target of reporting back to children and young people scrutiny committee in March 2016.”
The full review proposal can be seen at the Lincolnshire County Council website.
