More than 70 students from New College Stamford were rewarded for their hard work and dedication when they received their degrees at a glittering ceremony.

The new graduates donned their gowns and mortarboards at the Town Hall before making their way to All Saints’ Church for the ceremony, on Tuesday last week, when the college celebrated another year of successful results.

Among the 10 Exceptional Achievement Award winners were Sport Foundation Degree graduate and shot-putter Sophie McKinna, who has competed nationally and internationally including the Commonwealth Games. Sophie was presented with an Inspirational Achievement award by Stamford Mayor Clem Walden.

Guest speaker Bill Rammell, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive at the University of Bedfordshire, commended students on their achievements.

He said it was years of hard work that had led them to this point in their educational journey, and empowered them to continue learning, building new relationships and expanding their experience as they embark on the next stage of their lives.

College principal April Carrol said: “This event represents the culmination of several years of hard work and dedication from our students, staff, parents and university partners.

“I am proud New College Stamford has been part of the success story.”
