Invictus gold medal winner Carl Harding, a former RAF officer, visited Bourne Westfield Primary Academy to lead an assembly during their differences week.

His assembly was wonderfully inspiring and the children were enthralled with his description, both of the games themselves and the role Prince Harry played in bringing the games from its former US origins to London. Carl’s message, given his wonderful achievements despite disability and based on the unconquerable ‘I Am’ motto of the Games themselves, was: ‘don’t dwell on what you can’t do, but always strive for what you can achieve.’ It was followed by a question and answer session.

This provided a very fitting note to Westfield’s ‘respect differences’ theme for the week.

Assistant headteacher Nick Chandler said: “It is always a privilege to give children the occasion to meet real heroes in person. To have a gold medallist like Carl, who has represented his country, provided an inspiring experience.”
