Bourne Abbey recently entered the Bourne and Deeping Primary School swimming gala held at The Deepings Leisure Centre on Tuesday 26th November. The academy sent along a strong squad of swimmers from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 with separate girls and boys teams in each of the year groups.

The gala consisted of individual races in the freestyle, back crawl and front crawl and medley and freestyle relays.

For many children this was their very first gala and all were very excited to have been selected to represent the academy. There were some exceptional performances from individuals and relay teams.

Particular congratulations must go to our three categories of winners, Maddie Sharp, Jessica Mahoney, Anita Wong and Tom Booth who all came first in their individual events.

The Year 3 and 4 girls medley relay team of Leona Fenwick, Tilly Hilder, Jessica Mahoney and Elizabeth Allen came first in their event and Tom Booth, Callum Melville, Jack Green, Donovan Capes and Archie Gray dominated and came first in both the medley and freestyle relays.

The Year 5 and 6 girls team and the year 3&4 girls team both finished in 2nd place in their competitions. The team of boys in Year 3 and 4 dominated the competition and finished in overall first place.

A combined girls and boys team from Year 3 and 4 will now go onto represent Bourne Abbey at the Winter School Games in the New Year.

This was a fantastic opportunity and we would all like to say a great big thanks to the organisers and our teachers/parents for making this possible.
