As the beginning of the new school year fast approaches the excitement is building as final preparations are made to welcome the first children to the brand new Bourne Elsea Park C of E Primary Academy.

The school will open with both a Reception class and a mixed Year1/Year 2 class.

The team at sponsor school, Bourne Abbey C of E Primary Academy, led by Mrs Cherry Edwards OBE, Executive Headteacher, have been working hard during the traditional summer break in partnership with the contractors, GEDA, and the local authority project teams. Bourne Abbey took partial possession on Thursday 14th August. Mrs Edwards commented, ‘It is so exciting to be able to start to put the finishing touches to this fabulous new school and to have the opportunity to make it a truly welcoming and vibrant place for our new pupils to be able to learn and develop. We take full possession on 1st September and we can’t wait. We know from feedback from our new parents/carers that they and their children are extremely excited too to be part of the establishment of such a fantastic new educational provision for Bourne. ’

The team have now been joined by Mrs Laura Spillett, Assistant Head, the teaching team and support staff who are now on-site preparing the classrooms. Mrs Spillett said, ‘The school really is a hive of activity as we are getting everything ready and we are looking forward to welcoming our children with their parents/carers for their first visit to the completed school on Tuesday 2nd September. The children will then join us for their first school day on Thursday 4th.’

Mrs Spillett will teach the Reception children, supported by teaching Assistant, Mrs Stephanie Barrett. The mixed class will be taught by Mrs Evonne Olverson and Mrs Di Smithers assisted by Teaching Assistant, Mrs Liz Dacombe.

Other preparations include the installation of the phone and computer systems and final touches to the other rooms and outside areas by contractors, GEDA. Further developments planned include the installation during the first term of a fantastic outside play area for the children.

The school also offers extended care in the form of Breakfast Club open from 7.30 a.m. and After School Club available until 6pm.
