In Reception, we have been busy learning all about Chinese New Year.

We found out that it is a very important celebration in the Chinese calendar and had great fun celebrating it.

The children were so excited about Mrs Wong, one of our parents, coming to talk to them about how her family celebrates the Chinese New Year.

The children all loved trying the Chinese food she had prepared for them. Over the week we all enjoyed learning how to write our name in Chinese, trying on Chinese clothes and listening to the traditional story behind Chinese New Year.

We also enjoyed learning the words to the song ‘Gung Hay Fat Choy’ (Happy New Year) and performed a dragon dance whilst playing instruments.

Joel said; “I loved learning about Chinese New Year and especially doing the dragon dance and my favourite food was the egg fried rice.”

Evie said “I have learnt that I was born in the year of the Ox”.

Reception would like to share with you the prayer that is taken from an ancient Chinese blessing:

‘May God guard us and keep us in safety and comfort and in health and strength, sending us nothing but good.

‘May God send down so many blessings that the day is not long enough for them all. Amen.’
