Council investigates special needs claim in schools

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into claims that schools are discouraging children with special needs from applying for places.

Lincolnshire County Council is launching a review following complaints from parents that some teachers were subtly dissuading certain pupils from applying to their school.

Parents have been urged to share their experiences of finding a school with the council.

Chairman of the children and young people scrutiny committee Steve Williams said: “The review will enable us to get a clear picture of admissions and exclusions in the county and identify any problem areas that need addressing.

“A review is timely with the increasing number of academies and the new school admission code which comes into force in February 2012.”

The full list of councillors who will lead the review was due to be decided at the overview and scrutiny committee yesterday.
