Bourne pupils will benefit from £35,000 centre
PUPILS can now use a new £35,000 learning resource centre at their school which has opened thanks to a generous donation.
The building at Bourne Abbey Primary Academy in Abbey Road was officially opened on Monday, with representatives from The Len Pick Trust which donated £15,000 towards the cost of it.
The new Len Pick Resource Centre will provide children with a place to access up-to-date IT facilities, non-fiction resources, a chance to take on independent learning and share the enjoyment of reading and research.
The centre also provides a place for the school community - allowing parents and friends internet access and a meeting place.
The room was officially opened by Andy Rowe, who is the chairman of the trust.
He said: “The children are so excited about using the room.
“It provides an excellent area for learning.”
Headteacher Cherry Edwards is delighted with the new building.
Mrs Edwards said: “The room will provide many exciting opportunities for the children and be a valuable space for the school community.”
The rest of the money was donated by the school’s parent, teacher and friend association, as well as other grants.
The children were really excited about the opening of the resource centre, which Mrs Edwards said had created a “buzz” in the school.
School council chairman Emily Key is one of many pupils who cannot wait to use the centre.
Emily, 11, who is in Year 6, said: “I look forward to using the brand new facilities as a place to take up my independent projects such as preparing presentations for the school council.”
Work started on the centre in November and was complete by mid-January.
Len Pick was a retired farmer and businessman who left his estate to fund projects for the benefit of people in the town.
