Thorpe Hall Hospice is the new official charity for the 2015 Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival taking place at Peterborough Rowing Club, Thorpe Meadows on June 13.

The Dragon Boat Festival, now in its 17th year, is one of the largest and most eagerly anticipated team events in the region.

Up to 50 crews representing companies, organisations, clubs and groups of friends from across the region are expected to battle it out over the 200m race course raising much-needed funds for Thorpe Hall Hospice.

The festival offers a full
day of fun on land as well as water with plenty of activities on the bankside to entertain teams and spectators between races.

The dragon boats, qualified helms and all racing equipment will be provided, no previous experience is required and each crew is guaranteed a minimum of three races.

There will be fundraising activities on the day and teams will be encouraged to raise sponsorship and support with all the money raised going into the Thorpe Hall Capital Appeal. The appeal is now in its final months with around £2.5 million still to raise and building work on the new in patient unit well underway.

Carol Lester, director of festival organisers, Gable Events, said; “We are delighted to announce Thorpe Hall Hospice as our new festival charity and are sure that the local business community will get right behind the event in support of the amazing work that they do. The festival is a great chance to try something completely different, enjoy a fabulous day out and raise money for Thorpe Hall Hospice.
