Friday, 12.30pm: An unpaid £170 lunch bill at The George Hotel in Stamford has now been resolved.

Police released a CCTV image yesterday (Thursday) in connection with the incident, which happened on May 10. A police spokesman said a man and woman had lunch at the hotel and ran up a bill of just over £170. After eating they told staff they were going out for a cigarette but did not return, leaving the bill unpaid.

The spokesman said police were keen to trace the man and woman pictured to see if they had any information that could help the enquiry.

Today (Friday) the spokesman said: “Further to our appeal yesterday to trace a couple at a Stamford Hotel to see if they could assist with the enquiry into an unpaid bill we would like to thank the public and press for their assistance as they have now been traced.

“The matter has now been resolved.”
