Police have issued a warning to young drivers and motorcyclists in Bourne after several complaints about noise and antisocial behaviour.

A number of people living around South Road, Milestone Road and the A151 Raymond Ways May have reported problems with noise in the evenings and late at night.

If the driver or vehicle receives two of these warnings within a year, police will seize the vehicle and the driver will either have to pay to get it back or see it crushed.

Bourne community patrol sergeant Jon Putnam

Bourne community patrol sergeant Jon Putnam said: “We’ve recently received a number of calls from concerned residents who are being disturbed by motorcycles with loud exhausts, riding at speed around the town, racing other vehicles and driving on pavements. We know this involves a very small number of drivers, but it is the actions of a few that are causing misery for many.

“We have already dealt with some by means of fixed penalty notices and Section 59 warnings, and we will continue to deal positively with anyone causing a nuisance in the town.

“Irresponsible riders and drivers could see themselves having penalty points put on their licence or appearing in court. Not only this, but police officers and PCSOs also have the power to issue a warning to offending drivers under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002. If the driver or vehicle receives two of these warnings within a year, police will seize the vehicle and the driver will either have to pay to get it back or see it crushed.

“We do not want to spoil anyone’s fun or ruin their social life. All we are asking for is a little consideration for other people in the community.”

Police officers and PCSOs will patrol in marked and unmarked vehicles to keep an eye out for problems. The team is also urging residents to call police on 101 to report any issues with antisocial drivers or riders. The Bourne and Billingborough Neighbourhood Team can also be contacted through their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/bournenpt if a response is not required immediately.
