Lincolnshire Police commissioner announces plans to increase council tax

The Lincolnshire police and crime commissioner has announced proposals to increase the police’s portion of the council tax by two per cent.

Alan Hardwick formally submitted the proposals to the county’s police and crime panel, which scrutinises his work in the role which was introduced earlier this year. The proposed increase would result in an extra 7p per week for band D properties.

Mr Hardwick said: “My proposal ensures I am able to deliver all of the commitments I have made in my police and crime plan and most importantly means we can maintain 1,100 police officers in Lincolnshire.”

His proposals, which include plans to introduce volunteer police community support officers, will be considered by the panel when it meets on Thursday, February 7.

Lincolnshire County Council has announced its intention to freeze its share of the council tax and accept a Government grant instead, while South Kesteven District Council is consulting on plans to increase its share, which would mean an extra £5 a year for a band D home.

Rutland County Council and Rutland’s police and crime commissioner are both proposing council tax freezes.
