The brutal murder of Alan Wood will be in the spotlight again in a major TV documentary.

Tonight (Sunday, October 18) experts including Clive Driscoll, the retired Metropolitan Police senior officer who secured convictions for the 1993 murder of Stephen Lawrence, review the gruesome events that led to Alan Wood, 50, being found dead in a pool of blood at his home in Lound, near Bourne, on October 24 2009.

It was the most violent murder that seasoned police officers have ever witnessed in Lincolnshire and it was coupled with a post-death attempt to cut off Alan’s head.

Donal MacIntyre: Unsolved airs on CBS Reality at 10pm on Sunday with a repeat showing at 9pm on Monday.

Clive Driscoll, a former detective chief inspector with an illustrious 35-year career – and a track record of tackling cold and unsolvable cases – said today (Friday) that there may still be someone, a member of the public, who holds a vital clue that could help police.

He said anyone with information, no matter how trivial they think it is, should either contact police or, if they are frightened to come forward, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I have always said that the least we can do for Alan is at least try our hardest, the public and the police.

Mr Driscoll said even a tiny piece of information could be the last piece of the jigsaw that reveals the full picture to the police and finally, for Alan’s family and friends, “gives them justice”.

“I have always said that the least we can do for Alan is at least try our hardest, the public and the police,” he said.

Among those featured on the programme is Chief Supt Stuart Morrison, who led the murder inquiry for Lincolnshire Police.
