A dog groomer is a cut above the rest after winning an award with her poodle Freddie at the prestigious Groomer of the Year Awards.
Caroline Chambers and her four year old standard poodle, Freddie won second place in their category at the annual event.
Caroline who lives in Corby Glen and runs her own grooming business Koolcutz Grooming, came runner-up in the experienced category of the Standard Poodle Scissor class.
The competition features groomers from all over the world who showcase their grooming skills in front of thousands of spectators.
Caroline had to perform her scissor work on Freddie within two-and-a-half years, whilst being observed by a number of judges made up of accomplished groomers and specialists.
Caroline said: “On the day there were lots of spectators watching us perform. Although I have been grooming dogs for nearly 20 years, this was only my third major competition so I was very nervous.”
After the performance each competitor has to display their dog while the judges came around and inspected the groomers work.
Caroline also received a special prize for handling.
She said: “Freddie was an angel bless him, he stood so still for me, except for his front legs which he always gives me a hard time doing, no dog is perfect.”
She added: “When my name was called in second place, I was absolutely thrilled. It was the most amazing moment and I was smiling for days afterwards.
“It takes a long time to prepare a dog for competition and to think that it was all worth while is an unbelievable feeling. Freddie is such a showman, he loves all of the attention and thrives on it.”
Caroline, who has taken part in many grooming competitions over the years with her six dogs, including performing at Crufts with Freddie, hopes to continue entering more grooming competitions in the future.
