Age Concern celebrated 20 years of helping people with its day care service in the Deepings during a special lunch.

Many of the people who benefit from the service attended the event at the Open Door Church in Deeping St James, as well as people who have been involved in the past.

Day care centre coordinator Heather Newton said the event was a good opportunity to thank the many volunteers, who enable the service to run every Friday for a group of about 12 elderly people, nearly all in their 90s. There is also a summer trip, Christmas parties and fundraising activities in the spring. Two of the volunteers have been with the centre for 20 years and Heather herself has been the coordinator since 1998.
