Huge numbers of visitors from near and far enjoyed Castle Bytham’s Midsummer Festival in June and thousands of pounds was raised for good causes despite parking and entrance being free.

At a wine and nibbles event in Castle Bytham Village Hall on Tuesday, August 9, the outgoing chairman of the festival committee, Peter Hinton, presented cheques totalling £5,000 to eight community projects. This money was raised by the tombola, raffle, duck race and the profits of the sale of food and drink.

A cheque for £1,000 towards the maintenance and repair of St James’ Church was presented to Rev Graham Buckle, while Mike Wade accepted a cheque for £1,000 on behalf of the Village Hall Committee. Another £1,000 grant was made to the Bytham’s Community Shop project, accepted by Richard Kent.

Editor Ian Miller received a cheque for £500 in support of the Glenside magazine, which is delivered free to everyone in the local communities of Castle Bytham, Little Bytham, Careby, Creeton with Counthorpe and Aunby and Holywell.

The chairman of the Bythams Woodland Trust, Dr Patrick Candler, accepted a cheque for £750 to help maintain The Spinney, a popular woodland playarea and picnic spot on the edge of Little Bytham.

The Friends of Bytham School group provided children’s entertainments at the Festival, and chairman Donna Goring accepted a cheque for £350 towards future activities.

Last but not least, two popular Christmas events also benefited, with Angela Harris taking a cheque for £200 towards the over 60s festive lunch and Rachael Barrett receiving a similar sum for the children’s Christmas party.

The cheque presentation event was also an opportunity to introduce the incoming chairman of the Midsummer Festival committee, Kate Goodman, who has promised lots of fun for everyone at next year’s event, which will be held on June 17 and 18.
