Group hopes to pull in shoppers for Easter event in Bourne

TRADERS are gearing up to hold an Easter event in Bourne.

Gordon Cochran, who is heading the Bourne Community Action Group, organised a meeting, which took place on Monday, for shop owners and businesses to talk about the possibility of holding an event to celebrate the occasion, similar to the successful Christmas market.

About 20 traders and six town councillors attended the meeting at The Angel Hotel.

Gordon, who runs Gordon’s Photographic in North Street, was pleased with the turnout from Bourne Town Council.

He said: “There were not as many traders there as there should have been.

“But it was nice to see the town councillors there who were very positive in what they had to say, and supportive.”

He put forward his ideas for Easter, which included something in-keeping with the Christmas extravaganza which he thinks could be held on Easter Monday if fellow traders agree with the plans.

At the meeting he suggested another market of some kind is held, as well as a funfair, competitions and entertainment for the festivities. He hopes the group can hold something which will attract people of all ages.

Gordon said: “The meeting was therefore an opportunity to put all the different ideas out there for Easter, so we can start to formulate a plan of action to move forward.”

Gordon is hoping this year’s events in the town can be even more successful than the last, following on from the group’s success with their halloween fun and Christmas market.

He hopes the community of Bourne can look forward to celebrations organised by the group not only at Easter - but also for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, halloween and Christmas.

Gordon’s aim is to also encourage more people to visit the town and to enjoy themselves.

The action group, which has about 40 business people as members, was set up last year by Gordon to try to encourage a positive community spirit within the town.

Gordon hopes the organisation will continue to go from strength to strength this year with more people getting involved in the group. Shops, businesses or individuals are welcome to join.
